These chicks are flown direct to Homer so they arrive at our store between 24 and 36 hours after hatch, compared with the 60-72 hours through the post office.  This gives them a much higher survival rate.

Sold as 1-5 day old chicks

The Orpington was originally created in the 1800s in England. However, it wasn’t until the 1990s through extensive cross breeding that the Lavender variety was solidified in the Orpington lineage. The hens are known to be large, docile and great brooding mothers. They average 170-200 medium sized, light brown eggs a year. The Lavender is very cold hardy but can decline in extreme heat. Overall, they are an excellent backyard breed for the whole family. Mature hens average 8 lbs. and roosters 10 lbs.
