The Welsh is a calm and inquisitive bird that is an excellent layer and forager. They will also sit and hatch a clutch of eggs. They are a fairly new breed of duck, being developed in England in the 1940’s and brought to the U.S. in the 1960’s. They are a beautiful bird that is easily sex-able when adults, with the female retaining lighter coloring while the male feathers out with darker highlights and a green head.
