A rare German breed, the Bielefelder has only been around since the 1970’s. This bird gets very large, making it docile and a good dual-purpose bird. The hens will average 225 brown eggs per year. They are a cross of 4 different breeds: Barred Rock, Maline, Rhode Island Red and New Hampshire Red. The chicks are easy to tell apart when hatched, the females being darker, and the males lighter. Mature hens average at 6 1/2 lbs. while mature roosters average 8 1/2 to 10 lbs.
